Beach House Remodel - Spruced bathrooms before and after!!

Over the last few months we've been giving you glimpses into a beach house project that we've been working on. Spruce was hired to do a full scale remodel (our Wholeshebang service), including all finishes and furnishings. It turned out super awesome and we're really looking forward to sharing the entire project with you. I thought I'd begin the home tour with the bathrooms. We've been teasing you with progress pics along the way, but until today we haven't given you a proper before and after. Here are before pics of the master bath, powder bath and guest bathrooms before they were Spruced.

When our client purchased the home he gave us carte blanche with all of the design decisions...as you can imagine, that was tons of fun for us! Our design concept for the entire space was California modern, meaning light and bright with a beachy influence.

Powder Bath - After:

The powder bathroom is downstairs and was originally very dark. It's a small space, and felt even smaller because there was so much crammed into it. I realize that it only had the necessities...toilet & sink...but the size of the vanity took up half of the bathroom! The inside of the cabinet was pretty mangey... the floor looked like it might rot out of the cabinet. Gross! We knew that had to go. We pulled everything out of the powder and in order to tie it in with the rest of the downstairs, we painted the walls a bright white (Benjamin Moore, Chantilly Lace), installed natural hardwood floors, and added a really warm brass light from Studio OneFortyThree to brighten up the space. On the other side of the wall parallel with the toilet, was an old hot water heater closet. We installed a tankless hot water heater in the garage, so we were able to divide that space up into a linen closet in the powder bath and a pantry in the kitchen. That eliminated the need for a full vanity, and instead we opted for a small wall-mounted sink to open up the space and make it appear larger. Going along with the beachy theme, we added a round, sailor's glass mirror for a fun detail.

Guest Bath - After:

The master and the guest bathrooms are located upstairs and both were in need of a major style update; they appeared dated and worn. We decided to go bold and install encaustic cement tile on the floors. The cement tile is so much fun! They come in so many beautiful patterns and colors. We purchased our tile from Cement Tile Shop. We kept both bathrooms in a cool color palette - gray, white, green, and blue - to go along with our beach vibe. The cement tile is such a bold choice and we really wanted the floors to be the focus of the room, so we selected white subway tiles, trim pieces and hexagon tiles for the shower floor so that they wouldn't compete for center stage. The cement tile really delivers the impact that we were hoping for. The cabinets are custom built, shaker style cabinets with black, European ladder style knobs & pulls from Lewis Dolin. For the cabinets we selected a gray lacquer with a lot of green undertones to compliment the sage color in the floor tiles. The counter tops are quartz (Frosty Carrina) and we opted for the thicker edge detail to really punch it up. Because we did a white subway tile wainscott we decided to paint the walls a light gray (Benjamin Moore, Gray Cashmere) so that there was a little bit of contrast. It's a lighter version of the gray-green in the tile and turned out to be the perfect compliment. The mirrors in the master and guest bathrooms pivot, adding a fun layer that is easily customizable for the various people staying in the house.

We love how the bathrooms turned out! They are so fresh and clean and give off lots of beach vibes. Here are a few more of the Spruced "after" pics for your enjoyment, plus a sneak peek into the next stop on our home tour! Tell us which bathroom or detail is your favorite!
